About The Owner

Daoud Korany’s journey in pharmacy has been driven by a passion for patient care, experience, and an unwavering commitment to improving the lives of those in the communities he serves. After over two decades of working as a licensed pharmacist with major pharmacy chains, he decided to leverage his extensive knowledge and experience to create a personalized, community-centered pharmacy business.

Daoud’s credentials reflect his expertise and dedication to the profession. He is certified by the American National Association Board of Pharmacy and the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy. He holds licenses in the U.S., North Carolina and (Texas), Egypt, UAE, and Saudi Arabia. He is also a certified immunizer (since 2011) through the American Pharmacists Association and a CPR-certified professional with the American Heart Association. Having worked for the largest chain pharmacy in the U.S., Daoud’s vast experience spans not only dispensing medications but also understanding the challenges and nuances of the pharmacy field in different countries. In 2019, Daoud opened David’s Pharmacy in Charlotte, NC, USA, with a vision to transform the way patients experience pharmacy services especially being specialized in compounding medications. His goal was simple: improve patient care through shorter wait times, better communication, and a more individualized approach. This vision has led him to open a second pharmacy in Sharjah, UAE—Daoud Pharmacy—expanding his reach to serve a diverse range of communities.

Daoud ( David) Commented:

“As a pharmacist with a deep interest in personalized medicine, my experience in compounding has been one of the most rewarding and enriching aspects of my career. Compounding pharmacy involves the preparation of customized medications to meet the unique needs of individual patients. Whether it’s adjusting the dosage, altering the form of the medication (like creating a liquid from a tablet), or excluding certain ingredients due to allergies, compounding allows pharmacists to tailor treatments in ways that traditional, commercially available medications cannot.

One of the most memorable experiences I’ve had was working with a pediatric patient who had difficulty swallowing pills due to a neurological disorder. The child’s parents were understandably concerned, as their child needed a specific medication to manage their condition, but the only form available was in tablet form. In this case, I worked with the child’s doctor to compound the medication into a flavored liquid that was both easy to swallow and palatable. The gratitude from the parents and the positive outcome for the child made the long hours in the lab all the more worthwhile.

Another key aspect of compounding pharmacy is ensuring the precise formulation and accurate dosing of medications. This requires careful measurement and attention to detail. In one instance, I compounded a topical cream for a patient with a skin condition, carefully selecting the right base cream and ensuring that the active ingredient was incorporated thoroughly. The patient had not responded to over-the-counter or commercially available treatments, but after using the compounded preparation, the improvement was noticeable, and the patient’s quality of life significantly improved.

However, compounding isn’t without its challenges. Each preparation must be made under stringent guidelines and in compliance with state and federal regulations. The process requires not only technical knowledge of drug formulation but also the ability to stay up-to-date with evolving standards and best practices. Additionally, the interaction between compounded medications and other drugs a patient may be taking must be carefully considered, which adds another layer of complexity to the job.

What makes compounding particularly fulfilling is the direct impact we have on patients’ lives. Unlike in retail settings, where medications are often pre-packaged, compounded medications are truly individualized. I feel a great sense of satisfaction knowing that I’ve been able to contribute to a patient’s health and well-being in a way that goes beyond the typical dispensing of medication.

Through compounding, I’ve not only developed a deeper understanding of pharmacology and the intricacies of drug formulation but also a profound sense of purpose in my work. It’s one of the few areas in pharmacy that truly emphasizes the art of patient care, combining scientific expertise with a personal touch. For me, it’s about more than just dispensing medications—it’s about creating solutions that make a difference in the lives of those who need them most.”
